climate
In the UK, the awareness of climate change and its impact on our lives has grown in parallel to the development of ecological design. There is no doubting that climate change has begun and its progress is now acknowledged as unstoppable. However the inevitable impact that it will have on all our buildings is not sufficiently taken into account by most architects during the design process.
StudioMGM has for some years been involved in the development of climate change adaption design, responding to the impact of predicted climate change on our buildings.
For example we design:
- Pad foundations to reduce building settlement and damage
- Walls which give faster responses to rapid weather change
- Protection from wind driven rain and heavy downpours
- Good surface and rainwater drainage
- Buildings to encourage maximum outdoor summer use
- The use of plant life in helping interiors stay cool in the summer
- Good summer time cross ventilation
