liftshare match car drivers with people wanting a lift, and offer a free web based service to individuals. liftshare want to work from a building demonstrating the interconnection between green transport and green buildings.

The site is adjacent to the major A11 trunk road. The building sits lightly on the site, allowing the ground to remain largely undisturbed below it, with natural meadows and water to enhance its environmental qualities.

The building creates an acoustic wall with small fixed windows on the east side facing the road and large opening sliding doors facing west to the meadow. The plan is gently curved to create a sense of enclosure towards the meadowland, and cowls on the roof provide vents for the natural ventilation system which hark back to the vents on the local turkey sheds.

The building is of timber frame construction, with locally sourced larch cladding, wood fired heating, rainwater recycling, solar hot water heating, wind powered electricity generation and natural ventilation. The project has received planning permission and will go on site 2008.
