An ecologically designed timber house for a private client on a wooded site designed to fit comfortably between existing trees and take full advantage of field views to south and west – resulting in a free flowing building in both plan and elevations.
Low carbon materials and component assembly techniques have been used throughout, accompanied by a comprehensive range of energy saving design features and include:
- Passive solar gain through the use of large south facing windows
- Active solar gain through the use of photovoltaic cells
- Building positioning minimising heat loss
- A ground-to-water heat pump system providing space heating through underfloor heating
- Rain water harvesting for non potable and toilet flushing use
- High wood use including timber frame and external larch boarding. Timber treatment avoided through careful detailing and species choice
- Non toxic finishes with timber, natural stone and organic species
- A healthy home
