recycling
StudioMGM favours natural materials not only because they are beautiful and non toxic but also because they can be re-used if the building is ever demolished.
Synthetic materials such as plastics require energy to recycle, if indeed this is possible, and they consume considerable amounts of energy to manufacture and can undermine health.
StudioMGM encourages the use of:
- Recycled paper insulation which allows structures to breathe
- Lime-mortar which allows bricks to be recycled at the end of the building’s life
- Rain water systems for flushing toilets, washing clothes and watering gardens
- Reed beds as part of a natural alternative for recycling human waste into compost
- Wood and hemp
StudioMGM’s approach to natural and flexible constructions makes it possible to reduce excavation depths and costly subsoil disposal. We have experience of using recycled and reclaimed materials such as timber, bricks and tiles with lime mortars, cladding materials, rubber, hardboard and recycled plastics.
We ensure that our specifications give clients/builders clear directions about sourcing materials, helping them to follow sound environmental principles and promote ‘deep green’ architecture.
